If anyone says to you, “If you follow these ten simple steps, your little Johnny will be playing in the ACC,” please run away as fast as you can. There is no single formula or number of steps that will guarantee a college baseball scholarship. What works for some may not work for others and vice versa. This blog is certainly not meant to show that the yellow-brick road is the only road to Oz.  Rather, it is just one parent’s perspective on the journey that our son took from T-ball to his first D1 Baseball scholarship offer.

At the end of the day, we came to understand that our son’s journey was heavily influenced by the many different decisions we had to make along the way. Some of the decisions were easy. But many took weeks or even months to decide. I wish I had the benefit of a D1 Baseball parent who had asked those same questions and had gone through the same back and forth deliberations in their head.  To know how they arrived at their decisions would have been incredibly valuable.  What mistakes did they make?  What factors did they consider or not consider?  Just to name a few.

The most important thing, however, is that your decisions help to support your player’s efforts in being the best player he can be.  If that happens to lead to an offer to play college baseball, then so be it.  And it doesn’t have to be a “D1” college either.  For some players, it may be a much better fit to play for a D2, D3, NAIA, or JUCO.

We’ve considered a multitude of factors and weighed various points of view to make what we thought to be the best decisions possible.  Sometimes things turned out better than we could have ever thought or imagined.  At other times, the results were far short of our expectations.  But in both cases, we learned.  If this blog can help just one parent see things clearer so they can make more meaningful decisions in helping their son achieve his baseball dreams, then this blog will have accomplished its mission in our eyes.
